Research methods

The laboratory’s research is aimed at identifying such media reactions of a person or groups of people that are not controlled and not realized by them. For this, we currently use the method of oculography (eye tracking) and electrophysiological methods – the method of electrodermal activity (Shimmer device and electroencephalograph).

  1. Oculography.
The laboratory has a Tobii Pro Glasses 3, 50 Hz device, as well as licensed software from the IMotion company.

Read about the capabilities of this device here.

Today, the laboratory has data (results of research) obtained from almost 70 healthy volunteers who perceived radio news.

Volunteers undergo psychological testing before and after the study, as well as a vision test, to ensure a sample of individuals whose vision quality is at least 80%.

  1. Method for measuring electrical resistance, heart rate and pulse (Shimmer device). This method is a type of method for measuring electrodermal activity. The laboratory has a Shimmer 3 GSR+ device and licensed Consensys software.

This method is the basis for specific methods of studying media phenomena. We include the method of correlation of neurophysiological indicators of research subjects with elements of media phenomena (the author of the method is Prof. Volodymyr Rizun). The method was tested in studies of musical news screensavers by postgraduate student Arsen Rizun with the participation of assistant professor of the Department of Social Communications, candidate of philological sciences Inna Bielinska.
